•Value engineering and the construction manager's role during the design phase
•Tasks that fall outside design activities, including site, labour, and market investigations
•Coordinating construction manager, architect, engineer, and owner input during design
•Applying value-engineering techniques to balance cost, quality, and design intent
•Summarising the activities needed to properly organise a project for construction
Activity: Value-engineering exercise, participants identify value-engineering opportunities on a design in progress
•Knowing when to bid a project and weighing the costs of preparing a bid
•How the construction phase proceeds regardless of contract form or delivery method chosen
•Applying quality-management criteria to bid and contractor selection decisions
•Structuring a procurement process that protects project goals and budget
