There is a golden rule in nature: adaptability = survival.
Frankly, it is no different within organizations.
The success of an organization depends on how adaptable its people and strategy are. This does not only include the management but the entire organization. Being adaptable and open to change when it comes, and in a way, being prepared for unknown alterations can play a huge role in the outcome of any crisis management situation.
Whenever something unforeseeable occurs on any scale, small or large, we are expected to shift with it. Just strap on our boots and learn to swim with the tide.
However, organizations have witnessed that this is easier said than done.
As we shifted from our regular work environments for the first time, we came to terms with the fact that what we are encountering is in fact, the ‘new normal’.
This requires new ways of thinking and doing.
Moving to the ‘new normal’ means learning to adapt to changes outside our control and understanding how that impacts the way we work.
This, in turn involves acquiring new skills of adaptability, change, agility and refocus.
We are all capable of change and adaptability, as it is ingrained in our very nature.
Paradoxically, we also run from change and resist it. Therefore, how do we learn to adapt and change in uncertain times?
By flexing our resilience muscle!
Studies show that the biggest factor that plays a role in today’s everchanging business environment is strategic resilience. And not just resilience to that one-time crisis. Building organizational resilience means repeatedly predicting and adhering to sudden change and inclinations that can cause permanent damage to an organization. Learning to readjust means acquiring the skills to always be resilient and ready to welcome the unexpected.
We cannot predict when something unfortunate will occur, but we can be prepared for it, regardless.
There are a few things that can be done to adapt to these unprecedented times.
According to a Saudi Gazette report, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has organized 11 training courses remotely on the outbreak, benefiting more than 500,000 individuals from different regions of the Kingdom. This will ensure all citizens are fully prepared and even more, know how to deal with the uncertainty. Making sure an organization is well prepared for change and is resilient, management must invest in these skills.
Times of change and adaptability can be tough to cope with, especially when things occur at a rapid, ungraspable pace. Therefore, having a resilient workforce with skills of agility and flexibility is critical. The chances of overriding the storm prepared and coming out minimally harmed is more feasible when all workforce has harnessed the ability to change when necessary. Adversity can always be expected, so why not welcome it?
