About The Mentor

Robert L. Blakey, FMP, SFP, CFM, CHFM, CEM received a B.S. in Management as well as an M.S in Engineering Management from California Coast University. In addition, he received a license as a Chief Engineer for Steam, Motor and Gas Turbine Vessels of Any Horsepower from the United States Merchant Marine. Robert has over 30 years of in-depth and diverse facilities management experience. His background spans both public and private sector work. During the course of his career in the public sector he has worked for municipal governments, state agencies, and federal agencies. In the private sector, he has worked in the healthcare, real property management, research laboratory, maritime, and fuel transportation industries. He has worked for small companies up to and including Fortune 500 corporations. In addition, Robert has worked as a consultant in the field of life-cycle based design and optimization for universities, corporations and government agencies. He currently works for CBRE, a Fortune 500 Company, as the Senior Manager for Operations on the Kaiser Permanente of Washington account with responsibilities covering approximately 4,000,000 square feet of property. Robert is an active member of IFMA. He has been an officer of the IFMA Research & Development Facilities Council since 2005. In addition, he currently serves with the International Credentials Commission as a member of the Facility Management Professional (FMP) Credential Scheme Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Seattle Chapter of IFMA. He is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences for many organizations including; IFMA, ASHE, I2SL, and Tradeline. He has conducted seminars and presentations to companies and groups on the dimensions and challenges facing facilities professionals. Robert also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington where he teaches a Facilities Management Certificate program. Robert is a Board Member of the National Institute of Building Sciences – Building Smart Program and is a member of the National Science Foundation visiting committee for the Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center in Oakland, California. Robert was a subject matter expert in the development of IFMA’s Facility Management Professional (FMP) program as well as for the Sustainable Facilities Management (SFP) program for IFMA. He is currently an IFMA-Certified Instructor for all IFMA courses.
